Abstract
Nocardia infection is believed not to be rare as it appears. However, only several isolations were reported in Korea upto the present. It is considered that nocardiosis is often missed as the infection is not suspected. We isolated a strain of N asteroides from a soil-contaminated traffic-accident wound of a 63-year-old man. The organism was isolated from draining wound on the 45th hospital day
together with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Morganella morganii. The isolate showed t ,. ypical orange-colored colonies with aerial. mycelium and musty odor.
The isolate was gram-positive filamentous bacilli and acid fast. Based on the cultural and biochemical characteristics the isolate was identified as N. asteroides.
